Relaunching my newsletter as Weirlooms by Denimhunters

Highlights from the latest guides and posts I've published on Denimhunters.

Hi, it’s Thomas, I’m back in your inbox.

If you’ve visited the DH site within the past week, you might’ve seen that I’ve published quite a lot of new content. Five articles, to be precise.

In case you hadn’t seen these, this newsletter brings a few curated highlights from each post to your inbox, for your convenience. (I’m here to serve you! 😉)

So what’s with the new name for the newsletter? Right, since I’ve moved the newsletter to a new platform (which is awesome) and plan to do lots more of them, I thought it would be cool to give it a name. (And to be completely honest, I had the domain already 😄)

So the idea of a ‘weirloom’ is something I was working on last year. It’s a play on the words ‘wear’ and ‘heirloom’ (which means something that’s good enough to hand down to future generations).

The aim of the content I create and share in this newsletter is “to help you build a wardrobe of wearable heirlooms.”

I hope you’ll enjoy the treats I’ve found for you below … 😋

BUYING GUIDE

The loopwheel craze is reaching new heights. Ever since Jeremy Allen White wore the Merz 215 and the Whiteville tees in The Bear, everyone and their grandma’ are looking to get into these high-quality basics.

If you’re (also) on the lookout for a loopwheeled tee, I’ve rounded up some of the best you can buy right now—when they’re in stock (‘cuz they sell out fast!).

Below is my top 3 (the rest you go check out in the guide) …

This is the beefy tee that ‘Carmy’ famously wears in The Bear; the tee that’s had everyone Googling “what T-shirt does Carmy wear in The Bear”.

As a result, the loopwheelers at Merz can’t keep up with demand, so chances are it’s sold out and you’ll have to sign up to be notified when it’s in stock—and don’t sleep on it when a restock arrives!

Redcast Heritage has the 215 in lots of colours, but you might also be able to find it at Cultizm.

The other loopwheeled T-shirt that ended up in the spotlight on the back of Jeremy Allen White in The Bear is the “Quali-T” from Whitesville.

Originally an American brand, Whitesville was brought back to life and perfected by Toyo Enterprises—the parent company of Buzz Rickson’s, Sugar Cane, and Sun Surf.

Like everything else from Toyo, these tees offer exceptional value for money. They’re loopwheeled and you’re basically getting two for the price of one compared to all the others on this list.

Our partners Redcast Heritage and Hinoya sell the Whitesville tees.

The Warehouse 4601 T-Shirt is a top pick for anyone who appreciates a tee with bold texture and a comfortable and slightly boxy fit. Known for its distinctive horizontal lines that resemble bamboo segments, the 4601 has been one of my personal favourites for years.

Our partners Clutch Café and Corlection stock the 4601, but you’ll also find it at several other retailers in our scene.

BUYING GUIDE

We all love our hefty denim shirts—the kind that’s perfect for showcasing epic fades. But in the summer all that weight can feel like you’re lugging around a sauna.

Enter lightweight denim shirts: They bring all the character, texture, and fade potential of their heavier cousins but without the weight.

Grouped into western shirts, work shirts and ‘others’, this guide looks at 16 lightweight denim shirts. It’s so hard to pick just three, but I guess my favourites from each category are …

The TCB Dude Ranch Shirt is where historical charm meets everyday comfort. Crafted from soft Californian cotton denim, this shirt captures the essence of classic western wear with a contemporary touch. Its heritage design and durable fabric make it a perfect addition for those who appreciate a blend of vintage style and modern practicality.

The Iron Heart IHSH-353-BLU is a masterclass in blending traditional workwear elements with modern flair. Crafted from 10 oz. selvedge indigo denim and overdyed for a striking finish, it stands out with its unique fabric and thoughtful design. This shirt is perfect for those who appreciate durable construction paired with bold style.

The Kato Brace Shirt redefines workwear by integrating elements from classic dress shirts, resulting in a versatile piece that stands out in both casual and semi-formal settings. Made in the USA from premium 7 oz. indigo denim, it merges traditional craftsmanship with contemporary style.

This shirt you can buy directly from Kato here.

NEW RELEASE

Redcast Heritage and ONI Denim have just launched a new collab. This one most definitely isn’t your average collab!

The collab includes a pair of jeans (in a new fit) and a Type III jacket. And as you can see from the pictures below, the denim is really something else.

My guess is that it’ll be a case of ‘love it’ or ‘leave it’.

If you love it, go ahead and put in an order now, because they’ve only made 158 of the jeans and 50 of the jackets.

BRAND PROFILE

Like so many denimheads that also “came of age” in the late 2000s, Nudie was a gateway brand for me, and the Average Joes I wore in back in 2010 or so will always have a special place in my blue heart 🥰

But a lot has happened since then with Nudie. While they may have expanded their product range beyond raw and selvedge, they’re still relevant for us denimheads. At least I think so.

This profile explores the current top picks of Nudie’s jeans fits and their selection of Japanese selvedge denim.

Nudie has some really great fits, and I think you’ll be impressed with their options of top-notch Japanese selvedge too—just look at those fades ...

BUYING GUIDE

When it gets hot, your natural instinct is probably to reach for your trusted T-shirt. But here’s a thought: a short-sleeve shirt can elevate your style in ways a T-shirt simply can’t, all while keeping you cool and comfortable.

I’ve found no less than about a score of options to choose from. All are made from lightweight fabrics and all have a distinct “summer vibe” that’ll work anywhere from beach to casual evenings.

You can see them all in the guide on the site here, but I’ve also included my personal favourite below.

This Indigofera shirt blends classic style with exceptional comfort. Known for its longer short sleeves that sit just below the elbow when not rolled up, this shirt combines the robust look of canvas with the breathability of linen. While the black colour gives it a sleek appearance, be aware that it can absorb sunlight and heat, making it a standout piece for cooler evenings or shaded settings.

Enjoyed this?
