It's Flannel Season, Are You Ready!?

Autumn’s here, the flannels are out, and I’ve got some new favourites for you.

I can’t believe it’s mid-October already, but it is! And that means it’s officially flannel season!

This week, I’ve been in Portugal, where it’s been 25°C and sunny—basically Danish summer weather—but the calendar does say autumn, and that means it’s time to dust off your flannels or consider whether you need a new one this year.

This week’s newsletter is a cozy one, let’s get into it!

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SOSO

SOSO’s Heavyweight Flannels Are Built for Autumn

SOSO are best known for their heavyweight, custom-made jeans—but they’re also making a name for themselves in the heavyweight flannel game.

They’ve got a solid range of 13.5 oz. ombre flannels, all woven from premium Australian cotton, double-brushed inside for comfort and tough on the outside for durability. There are four colourways to choose from, all with that classic ombre pattern.

And because it’s SOSO, you can get yours made exactly how you want it—Western or Worker fit, your choice of thread and hardware, all built to your specs.

It’s the same base shirt I wore last week when I tested their 20 oz. Double Indigo fabric, and it’s every bit as substantial as you’d expect.

Just remember: SOSO isn’t off-the-rack. Every piece is made to order, which means a lead time of around six weeks at the moment. So if you want a flannel ready for when it really gets cold, now’s the time to place that order.

A Decade-Old UHF Fade (via Burg & Schild)

One of the most popular flannels out there remains Iron Heart’s Ultra Heavy Flannel (UHF). They’ve done it in what feels like a gazillion colourways at this point, and I’ll admit I’ve got more than a few in my own rotation.

But one that really stopped me scrolling a few weeks back was a Burg & Schild post on Instagram. This insanely faded Iron Heart UHF that the owner has been wearing for a decade!

This thing has seen it all. The result is one of the most beautifully sun-faded flannels we’ve ever seen. None of mine look remotely like this, which probably says something about how much time I spend behind a desk rather than the motorbike I don’t have.

If you needed proof that heavyweight flannels age just as well as jeans, that’s it.

The Flannel Guide Gets an Update

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been refreshing some of our core buying guides. First, the Selvedge Masterlist, then last week the ‘made-to-fade’ denim jacket guide—and now it’s the flannel guide’s turn.

It’s a full-sized guide, but if you want the highlights, here’s our top five favourite flannels:

Bryan’s Take on SOSO’s Yellow Flannel

Speaking of SOSO and their flannels—Bryan’s recently got one in their new colourway. He’s been wearing it, taking notes, and putting together a short piece about how it stacks up in real life.

Oh, and if you’re anywhere near Stockholm on Monday, SOSO is hosting a Denim Hang—a great opportunity to check out the flannels before you order one.
