These Fades Earned Extra Recognition in Year 4 of the Indigo Invitational
This week, we announced the spot prize winners of the Indigo Invitational Y4
I’ve been fascinated with raw denim for years. It’s the only kind of denim I’ve worn since the late-00s. What drew me in was the fades—watching the denim change as you wear and wash it. The way it ages, develops character, and becomes uniquely yours. That’s always been the real prize for me. It’s what led me to start Denimhunters.
But while the satisfaction of those fades can be motivating, it can be hard to stay focused on that one pair, wearing it for several months straight. Bryan Szabo experienced that too when he entered the raw denim rabbit hole.
What struck him was how people were showing off piles of unworn raw denim. That gave him the idea for the Indigo Invitational: a competition to help faders stay focused while breaking in their jeans.
It’s about the journey—but it’s also about community and recognition. And yes, the prizes don’t hurt either.
Here’s how it works:
Partners provide financial support, ensuring the competition remains free for all participants. Their contributions cover essential costs and allow Bryan to keep the gears turning behind the scenes.
Prize Sponsors donate incredible products—from heavyweight denim and custom boots to rare Japanese selvedge jackets. These prizes are grouped into showcases that winners get to choose from, mixing contributions from multiple sponsors.
In Year 4, the Indigo Invitational had:
8 partners helping keep the competition free for all participants.
66 prize sponsors, contributing a prize pool worth an estimated $50,000 USD or more.
Last week, we announced the 25 podium winners on Denimhunters. See the winners here. But it doesn’t stop there—Bryan also selects spot prize winners to celebrate unique achievements.

26 spot prize winners were recognised for their creativity, dedication, and unique fades. These awards highlight everything from Best Repairs and Filthy Fades to Black Denim Fader of the Year and the Ry T Spear Memorial Immaculate Vibes Award.
If you want to push yourself, stay focused, and maybe win some great prizes along the way, registration for Year Five opens on February 15th.
