How do you make a niche online platform profitable without selling out?

Back when I started Denimhunters, which will be 14 years ago in January, I didn’t expect it to ever become something that could generate an income for me. Thinking back, it was almost like I was fighting it; I didn’t want to commercialise the platform and risk losing touch with the one thing that’s kept me going all these years: passion.

In those early years, I deliberately didn’t want to put ads on the site. And even after I’ve started introducing ads, I make sure the sponsors we work with live up to the high standards we hold Denimhunters against.

This week, we’re kicking off a campaign (that includes ads) with a partner that most certainly meets our standards: Heimat.

For this campaign, we’ve partnered with Heimat to give one lucky winner a €250 voucher for their webshop. All you have to do is give us your email.

NOTE: Even if you’re already subscribed to our newsletter (which you probably are if you’re reading this), you still have to sign up using the link above. Existing subscribers will not automatically be entered into the giveaway.

The Story of Heimat and How the Brand’s Growing Beyond (the Best) German-Made Knitwear

Sweater weather is upon us, and we couldn’t be happier! It gives us an opportunity to poke our heads through our trusty Heimats. Perfect for those days when flannel isn’t enough, they’re an indispensable part of our fall and winter kits.

If you’ve experienced Heimat for yourself, we don’t have to tell you: Their knitwear is in a category of its own. As heavy as the winter nights are long and as cosy as an arm chair placed by the fire, their sweaters and beanies are absolutely essential this time of year.

Even if you don’t regularly contend with freezing temperatures, this doesn’t make a well-made sweater any less crucial. They combine brilliantly with selvedge denim, either as the outermost layer in a soft-yet-rugged look or underneath a selvedge denim jacket.

We had the chance to sit down with Heimat founder Christian Hofmann to talk about how his brand took shape and how their line has grown over the past few years.

They started with just a single beanie, but they’ve since become a top-to-bottom brand, with an equally impressive line-up of adventure-ready shirts, jackets, and trousers.

In the article, we look at Heimat’s history and at what we feel are their five most iconic products.
