Getting Cold? The Best Solution Starts With an N and Ends With a 1

All about our favourite cold-weather jacket

After a couple of busy days at Kingpins in Amsterdam, I’m back in the DH HQ. My feet may be on the ground, but my head still isn’t.

It’s a wonderful privilege to go out and meet all the great people in the denim industry as we all gather for the events. It’s also exhausting.

Enough moaning, let’s get to this week’s update from the DH site:

  • Bryan has put together a guide to our favourite rugged jackets for autumn and winter (it’s mostly N1s)

  • We’ve also updated our in-depth naval outerwear guide (which has more peacoats and some duffels)

  • And I’ll share why the Iron Heart N1 is my personal favourite …

Thanks for reading, thanks for your support 💙

BUYING GUIDE

Especially for those in cooler climes, the autumn months bring with them the opportunity to dust off some of our favourite cold-weather pieces.

As the leaves begin to change colour, our favourite brands help us prepare for the cooler temps with seriously rugged outerwear that will see us through the long, dark nights of fall and winter.

Perhaps because both Bryan and I live in close proximity to the sea, we are drawn almost irresistibly towards outerwear originally designed for sailors. The N1 Deck Jacket and the peacoat have yet to be bested both in terms of practicality and style. They’re utterly unsinkable.

To help you get ready for autumn and winter, this week, we’re looking at some of the best new releases inspired by the naval classics. Anchors aweigh!

MY FAVOURITE DECK JACKET

It’ll come as no surprise that my top choice of the bunch is Iron Heart’s take on the N1.

While Bryan isn’t a big fan of the patched-on pockets, I quite like them. Especially because you get that alpaca lining in there. Sooooo cozy for cold hands.

I’ve had one of these since the winter of 2018/2019. Mine is green and a size medium.

Truth be told, I wanted the khaki, but it was sold out (like they almost always are). And it’s also a tad too short, I’ll probably have to admit.

I’m just pretending to be freezing—the N1 will keep you warm!

Therefore, I’m “swapping” it for the black one in a size large. I’ll put my green one up for sale soon—if you’re interested in taking it off my shoulders, just reply to this email.

NB: These jackets sell out (very) quickly from Iron Heart’s own site and they don’t have many sizes left. But you can still get most sizes at Iron Shop Provisions!

MY BEST ALTERNATIVE

There are many great N1s out there—from Buzz Rickson’s, The Real McCoy’s and more—but if for some reason I had to pick something else than the Iron Heart, it would probably be the one from Tellason.
